To Gauge Your Leadership " Look to the Middle

DDI, Stoke Poges, 16th March 2010: Global Talent Management consultancy, Development Dimensions International Ltd (DDI) has launched a new curriculum in its range of development courses. Called Business Impact Leadership, it is designed to equip mid-level mangers with the leadership skills they need today.
Market data indicates almost 50% of global organisations rate their mid-level managers as fair or poor . 44% of senior leaders identify ineffective middle management as the single greatest barrier to achieving company objectives, while 30% believe their organisation is paralysed by ineffective middle management.
According to DDI, lack of confidence and skills within mid-level management could hold the key to the negative perceptions of more senior leaders. Research carried out by the firm suggests that only one in four mid-level leaders think they themselves are doing a very effective job.
Simon Mitchell, European Marketing Director comments: “If you want to gauge the health of your organisation’s leadership, look to the middle. Mid-level managers are the glue which cements an organisation together, yet with fierce competition, increasing spans of control, economic uncertainty and ever-increasing demands on time and resources, middle management is squeezed from the top and the bottom. Today’s middle managers have the widest range of responsibilities of any leadership level. However they are simply not being given the support they need. Perhaps, unsurprisingly, they are losing confidence as a result.”
DDI has identified four key leadership issues that are typical within middle management: Driving performance in a rapidly changing business environment; Harnessing the support of a team, departments and other networks across a complex organisations; Leading and developing talent to meet growing and diverse business needs and making difficult decisions with courage when they need to be made.
The Business Impact Leadership programme uses a variety of proven methods to create leadership development. The programme is scaleable and appeals to a variety of organisational requirements across geographic boundaries. DDI’s consultative approach ensures an integrated, strategic talent management strategy, which is closely aligned and measurable against overall business objectives.
