Fairfax, VA â€' Dryer vent cleaning is the number one way to prevent dryer related fires. Dayn Benson, a financial training consultant for Dryer Vent Wizard, recently commented on the two dryer fires that occurred in August County, VA.

“It is devastating when families lose their home, especially during the holiday season,” said Benson. “Even more devastating is when loved ones are injured or killed or when family pets die in a fire that could have easily been prevented.”

One of the recent fires occurred at a daycare center where nearly 40 children had to be evacuated. “We work to educate consumers on the importance of dryer vent cleaning to eliminate dryer fire hazards in homes,” said Benson. “As parents, we count on the daycare to provide a safe environment for our children. I cannot stress it enough; dryer vent cleaning is important for homes, apartment buildings, laundries and any building that has a clothes dryer.”

On the same day, a family in Verona lost their home to a dryer fire. No one was hurt in either incident; however, dryer vent cleaning would have likely prevented the disaster.

Dayn Benson and all of the franchise owners of Dryer Vent Wizard want to remind consumers of the importance of proper dryer vent installation and maintenance to keep dryers operating safely and efficiently. Read more at their blog http://cleaningdryervents.blogspot.com/

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports over 15,000 fires annually, resulting in deaths, injuries and property damage. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct, blocking the flow of air and causing excessive heat build-up, eventually leading to a fire. Dryer Vent Wizard advises that simply cleaning the lint filter is not enough to properly maintain the dryer vent system. Annual, professional dryer vent cleaning is key to preventing dryer fires.
