Sports Briefing Basketball Parker Gives Birth to Girl
The Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker has given birth to a girl. It is the first child for Parker, the W.N.B.A.'s reigning most valuable player and rookie of the year, and her husband, Shelden Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Goodwin Sports Management said the baby was born in Los Angeles on Wednesday. She weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and was 20 inches long. Parker averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds last season, and plans to rejoin the Sparks once she gets approval from her doctor. The season begins June 6.
